Alveston Juniors has no less than SIX coaches qualified to Badminton England Level 2 – all of whom have a number of years experience of junior badminton coaching at club and county level

Our Head Coach and club founder has a number of years coaching experience including working with the Warwickshire county U-13, U-14 and U-15 squads. He has also spent a season as Head Coach of the county’s development squad.

For many years he also ran the successful Racqueteers junior club in Coventry and raised their profile within the city. Under his guidance, the club became the city council’s preferred supplier of junior coaching and on their behalf has represented the sport at the Olympic Handover event and the Godiva Festival. The club were also honoured to manage the badminton tournament when Coventry hosted the British Transplant Games.

Chris was honoured to be awarded the Chairman’s Trophy by the Coventry Badminton Association in 2013 for his services to the sport locally. His name is now engraved on the trophy alongside such prestigious names as former Ladies Number 1 Jill Pittard and England coach Steve Butler

Chris has worked for Stratford Leisure Centre for whom he has run adult and children’s weekly classes and summer schools.

Outside of coaching, he played in the league for Old Warwickians and Alveston and is also a qualified umpire. In 2016, he was asked to take over the position of Chair of Warwickshire Badminton

Ralf is probably better known locally as a tennis coach and a player in that sport. He does have a successful history in badminton too, having represented Warwickshire at Junior County Level.

He too, is an experienced coach and worked for Stratford Leisure Centre as Head Badminton Coach for many years, running weekly group coaching sessions for junior players aged between 8 and 16. He has also organised many junior tournaments and taster sessions at the Leisure Centre.

He has played for Stratford in the Leamington and District League.

Both Chris and Ralf have helped many teenage players obtain their Duke of Edinburgh qualification in playing the sport and for community service by helping at coaching sessions

One of our founder members as a player, Sarah successfully completed her Level 2 Coach qualification during her gap year. She has been a member of the county’s U-13 and U-15 squads and whilst a member of the county’s Development squad she and her partner took gold in the Warwickshire U-17 Restricted Doubles tournament at the tender age of 13! She can also boast international badminton, having represented Warwickshire juniors in matches in Dublin! Sarah enjoys working with the younger players in the Wacky Racquets sessions but is equally happy working with the teenagers. Having graduated from university in 2016, she is now back on court with us

Stef is a professional coach who shares her services between ourselves and West Midlands Performance Centre. Like Chris, she is also one of the Warwickshire county coaches with their junior squad. She is currently running an after school contract for us and in her spare time acts as our Development Officer

Rosanna was one of the first players to join the club and came as a county junior. After reaching their, then, top age group of U17, she took the opportunity to take her Level 1 coaching badge and stay with the club in this more senior role. In March 2014 she passed her level 2 assessment and has taken on working with the county U11 squad. She plays competitively in the Coventry league for Ernesford Grange. Like Sarah, she too is now at university but is local enough to come and help out during term time when required

Fliss joined us in 2011 after finishing her time as captain of the Chester University Ladies badminton team where she passed her Level 1 coaching exam. (She also got a degree!) She has quickly and enthusiastically got involved with the coaching side. Currently working out of the area, we hope to see her back with us in the future

Malcolm was for many years, a coach at Racqueteers. Like Chris, he saw his children progress through the club and stayed on even after they’d grown up and moved on. During 2014 he took the decision to adjust his work pattern from working full time in education to a split including part time coaching. As well as being heavily involved with our Leamington sessions, he is also running sessions locally for Badminton England. He plays in the Coventry league for Ernesford Grange
